CAP 37.77c how hot does the CAP get? 54.92C in geraldton that the temp? never looked at CAP before just understanding the soundings.. darwins sounding vs our soundings

I've never seen a CAP reading above 100C. I doubt if you would see one that warm. Technically though, a cap is not a proper cap without CAPE, because you need positive buoyancy for the warm air to "cap" convection as such. Its just an inversion if the temperature line stays to the right of the TAPP line throughout the atmosphere.

cheers guys, wonder what happens when a storm thats broken the cap in one area does if it was to travel a distance and run into a another area with strong cap...mid level updraft ? hail? ill read some more

@MBZLY The storm will weaken and eventually dissipate. Depending on the strength of the cap, this can happen slowly or in a matter of mins.
